|THE ORIGINS OF WORSHIP AND UNIQUENESS OF REPRESENTATION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN IN UKRAINE
|Abstract. The article covers the origins of the Blessed Virgin worship in the territory of Ukraine and shows that the difference in Christian and pagan cultural worldview paradigms did not cause marginalization of archetypal image of woman as a mother who wasfrom that timeon represented as the Blessed Virgin. Having acquired the national features, she appeared as a terrestrial Ukrainian woman and mother taking care of her children (the Christians), as well as the domesticities, such as improvement of the state and the Church. It emphasizes that the popularity of the Blessed Virgin images among common Ukrainian people was due to the fact that she was regarded as the intercessor in not only national affairs but also the everyday life affairs. There were icons of the Blessed Virgin for all occasions – conception, pregnancy, childbirth, nursing and child-bearing, healing of body and soul illnesses, care for wellbeing and prosperity of the family, etc. Along with the above, the ambivalent meaning of archetypal image of a woman – the Blessed Virgin - in Ukrainian culture is highlighted.
